Stop Stashing It Saturday – Old Paint

Do you have any cans in your garage (or, perhaps, your basement) that look like this?

There are several things you can do with your old paint:

The most important thing is to make sure that it is not a color that you will need for your current walls. Once that’s been determined, then I recommend just saving a small jar’s worth of paint for touch-ups and getting rid of the rest.

1)  You can find your local hazardous waste disposal sites by searching online. We’re very fortunate in the King County area to have so many options!

2) If the paint is in good condition, you can try selling it on Craigslist

3) There are some charities that accept paint donations, as long as it’s still usable (i.e. http://www.globalpaints.org/)

Some people will suggest that as long as the paint is completely dried up and/or absorbed (tip: you can absorb it by pouring cat litter into the paint can…just make sure to leave room for expansion as it absorbs), but I would encourage you to look at safe alternatives to simply dumping it in the trash.
